Yes to all these! Between my hashimoto’s, menopause, and adhd… sleep is mandatory. Exercise, nutrition, and magnesium are non-negotiable for me.

Same here (except the hashimoto's).

Sleep has been an issue for me for decades. I can lie down and relax my body, but I’ve never known how to relax my mind. I plan things, create things, write (in my head), ruminate… and some lucid dreaming. I eventually fall asleep but then have intense vivid dreams, which I often remember very nearly for weeks. Basically, I’m a hot mess! 😂😂😂

That happens to me too, journaling helped a lot with that.

Exercise seems to help me sleep better. I just don’t always get enough exercise!

Maggie Jon's avatar

Fair enough. Is it a priority for you right now? And I don't mean that in the gym bro kind of way, like "you just gotta make it a priority", more in the "what else do you have going on in your life" kind of way.

Agree with all of these! Exercise certainly hasn’t “cured” my ADHD but it has probably kept me from totally losing it over the years. Magnesium at night is wonderful. Also going to bed at the same boring hour of 10-10:30 does help.

Looking forward to reading more of your blog!

Yep, sleep hygiene is SO important, and sticking to the same sleep-wake times is part of that. Glad you enjoyed it 😊

This is a really great article and the perfect starter kit to sleep. I was better on MgGly and you have inspired me to order some more and get back on the wagon.

Maggie Jon's avatar

If it has helped you in the past, that's probably a good idea! I know how easy it is to stop doing or taking things, I usually think it "probably isn't that helpful anyway" but then when I start again I really feel the difference. Glad this article helped 🙏

I’ve had an off again/on again relationship with sleep for most of my life so this is definitely valuable.

Also, ADHD and sex would be an interesting research topic.

And the picture choice was amazing. 😅

Maggie Jon's avatar

I'm glad it's useful! And yep, I've been thinking about that. I'm hesitant because for some reason it's still quite a taboo topic and I'm not looking forward to losing subscribers. But I might reconsider!

Lee Gilliland's avatar

Not looking to cost you subs, but if you ended up reconsidering, I’d definitely read the fuck out of that!

Maggie Jon's avatar

What specifically though? The mental side like sex addiction or libido issues or the physical side of it?

Lee Gilliland's avatar

I think my initial thought was sex addiction or just using sex for that dopamine hit but honestly, all of that sounds interesting to me.

Maggie Jon's avatar

I'll see what I can do. I'm thinking in two weeks!

Maggie Jon's avatar

I appreciate your phrasing, Lee 😂

Butt - implicitly - involved. Close enough for me to consider my prediction a win.

Maggie Jon's avatar

I was waiting for your comment 😂 Yes! Hope the sleep tips were helpful 🙏

Not sure about taking magnesium or a derivative thereof. Here in the states we have an OTC product called “Milk of Magnesia” - it’s sold as a powerful laxative, after all.

On the other hand, reminders not to doomscrolling are always good. They get me to back off - until I need another reminder to stay off.

Maggie Jon's avatar

There's a big difference between milk of magnesia and magnesium glycinate. But of course, it's not for everybody. I almost didn't take it but since I've started I am finally experiencing "normal" sleep. Which for me is borderline miraculous.

I don’t and won’t doubt your experience. And I’m hardly a chemist. I’m talking about my own mental associations, which your image choice did little to absolve.

Hahaha, fair enough 😂😂😂
