I learned about HALT in high school.

I used to think I could stop smoking pot by just 'thinking my way out of it.

My best friend and I would try to prove we had self-control by sitting in front of a whole ounce, writing a list of reasons to quit.

Always ended with us smoking it all, then she used to pull out this huge bag of picafresas (Mexican candies) to feel better.

Once I figured out it wasn't a fucking debate - just dopamine - I was able to quit.

Started selling it instead.

It has to do with dopamine, but bad habits and addictions are more than just a physical problem. So in that sense, for most people, they do have to 'think/feel/act their way out of it'.
