There is a lot to digest in here. I resisted taking notes; I'll do so when I watch it again.
Two things:
Mark's remark about riding his motorcycle made me go YES! You're so busy concentrating on enjoying the ride and surviving at the same time that your senses are on full alert, and this frees up the brain for a lot of...
(second thing) the idling brain. I call it 'lateral thinking'. Which I think is very, very important.
While in the cage (the car), I tend to listen to the radio, but on the bike, I do not have that urge at all (which is why I don't have any form of external entertainment in my helmet).
Oh no nothing to due with that... that's what it's called!
But I LIKE "lateral thinking." Its almost more descriptively accurate.
The default mode network is many different things but like you said in the podcast, (great podcast) it's when our brains aren't active in a self coordinated way.
There is still many many process going on they are just not outwardly goal driven and that's why I like the gentleman's idea above about "Lateral Thinking" I think that encompasses "Default Mode Network" where the mind is free to make connections randomly but in a uniformly distributed way.
No crapped pants detected. Not so much as a skid mark. Your comments about your snout had the worst possible effect: you made me study it intensely the whole time, but nothing askance was to be found. In fact the lack of disaster was actually a little anticlimactic. But otherwise, great job.
In some other posts, our esteemed blogger and interview subject here was a little nervous, and I was dropping a note to congratulate her for doing fine. If my comment sounds scatological, I was referring to things she said, so I blame her.
Lovely! We are our own harshest critics. Your voice or nose does nothing strange. Was great to see you!
Thanks beautiful, I appreciate it ❤️

More later,no doubt.
"Lateral thinking..." I like that.
I am familiar with the "Default Mode Network" vernacular but I don't like it.
What does that even mean? I mean What does it default to?
I get it... and at least it's science based, but it's also just a tiny slice of information making us a little more less wrong.
And again I think it's great... but what about our tendency to remember easy to digest bits of info like "We only use %10 of our brain capacity!?!!"
Do we talk about the fact that neurodivergent individuals have areas of the brain that are hyperconnected and areas that are hypoconnected?
That certain areas are HIGHLY ACTIVE and others are underutilized.
Do we talk about the fact that we are discovering that our white matter has defined differences in water myelin density levels.
As well to that end, our corpus callosum are usually less connected leaving signals unable to travel to distant parts of the brain.
Then there are all the neurotransmitters… dopamine, serotonin, Gaba, Glutamate, vasopressin, oxytocin, etc.
This doesn't even tap into the fact most people don't realize their brain isn't made for thinking or to “be happy”… it's made for survival.
Our brains are predicting everything moment to moment infused with the feedback from your senses in a dance of survival.
The better you can predict and react and plan ahead the better you will be.
This is the TWO systems of thinking proposed by the famous Daniel Kahneman and his Fast and Slow systems of the brain.
I won't even summarize here, but those are based on behaviors anyway. Not fact.
Not that we KNOW ANYTHING anyway. We only know that we are less wrong about our models.
Anyway, NEUROSCIENCE has proven we are cloaked in a deception our own mind has created to survive… despite whatever you actually THINK YOU WANT.
IT'S ALL A DELUSION!
True, but I had to start somewhere 😉

Geezus I hope that make sense.
It does! My partner has a similar term for how my brain functions but my brain isn't cooperating right now, I'll ask him soon 😊
Mines fried after today! 🥓
Looking forward to it! (For once no sarcasm)
No Sarcasm - really - I don't believe it Maggie! Take your temperature - you may be coming down with something!!
As a matter of fact I am hahaha 😅
I bloody well knew it 🕺🏻😎🤣
Damn. No sarcasm. How utterly disappointing. 😎
DID YOU JUST USE THE D WORD??? 😮😮😮
I assume you meant the SECOND d-word. 🤪
Nono this is the most important (bad) D word!
Ok... seeing as to how profanities have nothing on you, I am at a loss. 😶
This is so good. I really, REALLY ENJOYED the show.
It was so much more deep and detailed yet felt so intimate.
UNBELIEVABLE!!! I THINK ITS THE POWER OF neurodivergent comfort expressed.
So beautiful! 🌻
Oh wow 🥹 Holy shit I think your comment made me speechless 😅
I hope NOT! 🤣🤣🤣
It never lasts long, don't worry 😁
No... no it didn't. 🤣
Perfect 👌

???
Just Sam being a loving asshat. 😉 All good!
Actually super funny!!! Good on him for not breaking character!!!
🤣🤣🤣🎉🎉🎉
That's just good stuff… I love it!
I knew you’d get me. 😀
😉

That's double funny!!! 🤣
I blame her too! 🤣🤣🤣💩
Wowowow no ganging up on me now hahahaha
I will have you know I was not ganging up on you, I was shifting responsibility away from me.
Hahahaha you guys crack me up 😂
No no no... I was simply trying to cajole you out of your silence.
Oh it doesn't take much haha
It's ok, I am used to being blamed. #childhoodtrauma 😏😂
Parents - wouldn't be here without them - would be less fucked up if they did a better job! 🤷🏼♂️😳🙈🤣
☹️😀☹️
Hehe sorry to disappoint and deliver at the same time 😉
Ain’t that always the case?
Me specifically? Probably 😂
I don’t know you specifically well enough to say such a thing. Just … I can relate.
🤣🤣🤣
