The lights had been flickering for a solid three minutes, and she blinked as a subconscious attempt to restore visual equilibrium. Her head was pounding, somehow matching the rhythm of the couple she had spotted in the alley, right before entering this hellhole.
I don’t think - how long I am going to last - I feel - Am I going crazy?
I shouldn’t have come here. Why the fuck didn’t I just…
A soul-shattering shriek cut through the noise inside her skull. She could feel the little hairs on her arms giving the Creature a salute as her heart revved up its drumming.
Looks like my body has more respect for the natural hierarchy than I do.
She smirked, knowing full well that her smartassery wouldn’t help her here. But it looked like there was just one Creature this time, so maybe she could make it out without losing her mind. She took a deep breath and stared the Creature in the face, her eyes locking onto its pupils.
Stop.
The Creature blinked. She could feel it fighting back, its eyes trying to penetrate her thoughts. Her ear drums had accepted her heart’s invitation to the shit soiree, which didn’t help her concentration one bit.
Stop.
It must have been a newly formed Creature, because it stopped shrieking and turned its face away from her as a sign of respect. She was surprised; even newly formed Creatures generally put up more of a fight.
What time is it?
She checked her phone.
12:06
Just a little bit longer here, and I should be safe.
She couldn’t wait. After The Battle Of The Spirits she’d been on the road for hours. Luckily she had managed to fight off some Dwellers when she first arrived here so at least she could sit.
The engine of her ride was putting up an incredible fight.
I wonder how long ago they checked this one. Probably eons.
A stop. Eager to see her destination, she peered though the window which clearly had been used to grow new life forms. This wasn’t her destination at all.
Instead, a Dweller entered. Wet, matted fur and a breath begging for a couple hundred Mentos. The Dweller spotted her and started making his way to her.
Fuck. Fuck, fuck, fuck.
“Permiso.”
There is almost no one else on this motherfucking bus, and you got to sit right next to ME?!
I hope you enjoyed this one as much as I enjoyed writing it, my favorite fellow meat sacks humans! I’m so happy I’ll be spending next week in sunny Brazil instead of wintry Montevideo, so I thought I’d do something a little different. There are a lot of typical ADHD traits in this story, which can you relate to most? 👀
PS1: if you’d like to work with someone who understands your sensitive ADHD brain and can help you work with it rather than against it, you can find my website here. I’ll be back in a week!
PS2: you can also become a paid subscriber/member via Buy Me A Coffee. Paid subscribers have the opportunity to ask me a question every month, after which I send you a recording of my answer to your and other members’ questions. If you appreciate what I do but a subscription doesn’t fit your budget, you can always buy me a coffee instead 😊
I feel... overstimulated after reading this. Thanks, Maggie! 😭
Sounds like my anxiety 👏
